* Replace CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE by auto-generated valueWolfgang Denk2010-10-261-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE has always been just a bad workarond for not being able to use "sizeof(struct global_data)" in assembler files. Recent experience has shown that manual synchronization is not reliable enough. This patch renames CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE into GENERATED_GBL_DATA_SIZE which gets automatically generated by the asm-offsets tool. In the result, all definitions of this value can be deleted from the board config files. We have to make sure that all files that reference such data include the new <asm-offsets.h> file. No other changes have been done yet, but it is obvious that similar changes / simplifications can be done for other, related macro definitions as well. * Rename CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_END into CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_SIZEWolfgang Denk2010-10-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_END was a misnomer as it suggests this might be some end address; to make the meaning more clear we rename it into CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_SIZE No other code changes are performed in this patch, only minor editing of white space (due to the changed length) and the comments was done, where noticed. Note that the code for the PATI and cmi_mpc5xx board configurations looks seriously broken. * powerpc: Cleanup BOOTFLAG_* referencesPeter Tyser2010-10-181-8/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Now that warm booting is not supported, there isn't a need for the BOOTFLAG_COLD and BOOTFLAG_WARM defines, so remove them. Note that this change makes the board info bd_bootflags field useless. It will always be set to 0, but we leave it around so that we don't break the board info structure that some OSes are expecting to be passed from U-Boot. * config.mk cleanup: drop "-I$(TOPDIR)/board" entriesWolfgang Denk2010-10-181-33/+0
| | | | | | | | | After the recent cleanups, a number of config.mk files consist only of a "PLATFORM_CPPFLAGS += -I$(TOPDIR)/board" entry whih is not needed. Remove such entries. In most cases, that means that the whole config.mk file can be removed. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Makefile: move all Power Architecture boards into boards.cfgWolfgang Denk2010-10-181-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Clean up Makefile, and drop a lot of the config.mk files on the way. We now also automatically pick all boards that are listed in boards.cfg (and with all configurations), so we can drop the redundant entries from MAKEALL to avoid building these twice. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk2010-10-182-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. * Move arch/ppc to arch/powerpcStefan Roese2010-04-212-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As discussed on the list, move "arch/ppc" to "arch/powerpc" to better match the Linux directory structure. Please note that this patch also changes the "ppc" target in MAKEALL to "powerpc" to match this new infrastructure. But "ppc" is kept as an alias for now, to not break compatibility with scripts using this name. * Rename lib_generic/ to lib/Peter Tyser2010-04-131-2/+2
| | | | | | | | Now that the other architecture-specific lib directories have been moved out of the top-level directory there's not much reason to have the '_generic' suffix on the common lib directory. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
* Move lib_$ARCH directories to arch/$ARCH/libPeter Tyser2010-04-131-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | Also move lib_$ARCH/config.mk to arch/$ARCH/config.mk This change is intended to clean up the top-level directory structure and more closely mimic Linux's directory organization. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>
* ppc: Enable full relocation to RAMPeter Tyser2009-10-032-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The following changes allow U-Boot to fully relocate from flash to RAM: - Remove linker scripts' .fixup sections from the .text section - Add -mrelocatable to PLATFORM_RELFLAGS for all boards - Define CONFIG_RELOC_FIXUP_WORKS for all boards Previously, U-Boot would partially relocate, but statically initialized pointers needed to be manually relocated. * unify HOST_CFLAGS and HOSTCFLAGSMike Frysinger2009-07-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | The top build system sets up HOSTCFLAGS a bit and exports it, but other places use HOST_CFLAGS instead. Unify the two as HOSTCFLAGS so that the values stay in sync. Signed-off-by: Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org>
* Separate mtdparts command from jffs2Stefan Roese2009-03-201-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Currently the mtdparts commands are included in the jffs2 command support. This doesn't make sense anymore since other commands (e.g. UBI) use this infrastructure as well now. This patch separates the mtdparts commands from the jffs2 commands making it possible to only select mtdparts when no JFFS2 support is needed. * Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho2009-03-201-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>

* Change initdram() return type to phys_size_tBecky Bruce2008-06-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the return type of initdram() from long int to phys_size_t. This is required for a couple of reasons: long int limits the amount of dram to 2GB, and u-boot in general is moving over to phys_size_t to represent the size of physical memory. phys_size_t is defined as an unsigned long on almost all current platforms. This patch *only* changes the return type of the initdram function (in include/common.h, as well as in each board's implementation of initdram). It does not actually modify the code inside the function on any of the platforms; platforms which wish to support more than 2GB of DRAM will need to modify their initdram() function code. Build tested with MAKEALL for ppc, arm, mips, mips-el. Booted on powerpc MPC8641HPCN. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>

* Fix linker scripts: add NOLOAD atribute to .bss/.sbss sectionsWolfgang Denk2008-01-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With recent toolchain versions, some boards would not build because or errors like this one (here for ocotea board when building with ELDK 4.2 beta): ppc_4xx-ld: section .bootpg [fffff000 -> fffff23b] overlaps section .bss [fffee900 -> fffff8ab] For many boards, the .bss section is big enough that it wraps around at the end of the address space (0xFFFFFFFF), so the problem will not be visible unless you use a 64 bit tool chain for development. On some boards however, changes to the code size (due to different optimizations) we bail out with section overlaps like above. The fix is to add the NOLOAD attribute to the .bss and .sbss sections, telling the linker that .bss does not consume any space in the image. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* TQM8xx[LM]: Fix broken environment alignment.Wolfgang Denk2007-09-161-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With recent toolchains, the environment sectors were no longer aligned to sector boundaries. The reason was a combination of two bugs: 1) common/environment.c assumed that CONFIG_TQM8xxL would be defined for all TQM8xxL and TQM8xxM boards. But "include/common.h", where this gets defined, is not included here (and cannot be included without causing lots of problems). Added a new #define CFG_USE_PPCENV for all boards which really want to put the environment is a ".ppcenv" section. 2) The linker scripts just include environment.o, silently assuming that the objects in that file are really in the order in which they are coded in the C file, i. e. "environment" first, then "redundand_environment", and "env_size" last. However, current toolchains (GCC-4.x) reorder the objects, causing the environment data not to start on a flash sector boundary: Instead of: we got: 40008000 T environment 40008000 T env_size 4000c000 T redundand_environment 40008004 T redundand_environment 40010000 T env_size 4000c004 T environment Note: this patch fixes just the first part, and cures the alignment problem by making sure that "env_size" gets placed correctly. However, we still have a potential issue because primary and redundant environment sectors are actually swapped, i. e. we have now: 40008000 T redundand_environment 4000c000 T environment 40010000 T env_size This shall be fixed in the next version. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modifications are based on the linux kernel approach and support two use cases: 1) Add O= to the make command line 'make O=/tmp/build all' 2) Set environement variable BUILD_DIR to point to the desired location 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' 'make' The second approach can also be used with a MAKEALL script 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' './MAKEALL' Command line 'O=' setting overrides BUILD_DIR environent variable. When none of the above methods is used the local build is performed and the object files are placed in the source directory.
