* x86: use generic register name in the thread and tss structuresH. Peter Anvin2008-01-301-10/+10
| | | | | | | | | This changes size-specific register names (eip/rip, esp/rsp, etc.) to generic names in the thread and tss structures. Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>
* x86: rename the struct pt_regs members for 32/64-bit consistencyH. Peter Anvin2008-01-301-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have a lot of code which differs only by the naming of specific members of structures that contain registers. In order to enable additional unifications, this patch drops the e- or r- size prefix from the register names in struct pt_regs, and drops the x- prefixes for segment registers on the 32-bit side. This patch also performs the equivalent renames in some additional places that might be candidates for unification in the future. Signed-off-by: H. * x86: debugctlmsr context switchRoland McGrath2008-01-301-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | This adds low-level support for a per-thread value of MSR_IA32_DEBUGCTLMSR. The per-thread value is switched in when TIF_DEBUGCTLMSR is set. * x86: desc_emptyRoland McGrath2008-01-301-5/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This replaces the desc_empty macro with an inline. It now handles easily any of the four different types used between 32/64 code to refer to these 8 bytes. It's identical in both asm-x86/processor_64.h and asm-x86/processor_32.h, so if these files ever get merged this function can be in the common code. This also removes the desc_equal macro because nothing uses it. * x86: store core id bits in cpuinfo_x8Yinghai Lu2008-01-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | We need to store core id bits to cpuinfo_x86 in early_identify_cpu. So we use it to create acpiid_to_node array in k8topolgy.c Signed-off-by: Yinghai Lu <yhlu.kernel@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Cc: Christoph Lameter <clameter@sgi.com> Cc: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Cc: Len Brown <lenb@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>

* x86: move idle related declarationsThomas Gleixner2008-01-301-0/+4
| | | | | | | | Move idle related declarations to processor_64.h, where the the others are as well. Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
* x86: convert cpuinfo_x86 array to a per_cpu arrayMike Travis2007-10-191-4/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | cpu_data is currently an array defined using NR_CPUS. This means that we overallocate since we will rarely really use maximum configured cpus. When NR_CPU count is raised to 4096 the size of cpu_data becomes 3,145,728 bytes. These changes were adopted from the sparc64 (and ia64) code. An additional field was added to cpuinfo_x86 to be a non-ambiguous cpu index. This corresponds to the index into a cpumask_t as well as the per_cpu index. It's used in various places like show_cpuinfo(). cpu_data is defined to be the boot_cpu_data structure for the NON-SMP case. * x86 & generic: change to __builtin_prefetch()Andi Kleen2007-10-191-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | gcc 3.2+ supports __builtin_prefetch, so it's possible to use it on all architectures. Change the generic fallback in linux/prefetch.h to use it instead of noping it out. gcc should do the right thing when the architecture doesn't support prefetching Undefine the x86-64 inline assembler version and use the fallback. * x86: multi-byte single instruction NOPsJan Beulich2007-10-171-0/+22
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for and use the multi-byte NOPs recently documented to be available on all PentiumPro and later processors. This patch only applies cleanly on top of the "x86: misc. constifications" patch sent earlier. * x86_64: Remove serialize_cpu() inlineAndi Kleen2007-10-171-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - It was redundant with sync_core() - It was unused - It was broken: no input arguments to cpuid; could fault randomly depending on eax contents. Now it's gone.
