* [PATCH] Clean up and refactor i386 sub-architecture setupJeremy Fitzhardinge2006-06-251-0/+74
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Clean up and refactor i386 sub-architecture setup. This change moves all the code from the asm-i386/mach-*/setup_arch_pre/post.h headers, into arch/i386/mach-*/setup.c. mach-*/setup_arch_pre.h is renamed to setup_arch.h, and contains only things which should be in header files. It is purely code-motion; there should be no functional changes at all. Several functions in arch/i386/kernel/setup.c needed to be made non-static so that they're visible to the code in mach-*/setup.c. asm-i386/setup.h is used to hold the prototypes for these functions. * [PATCH] arch/i386/mach-voyager/voyager_cat.c: named initializersAdrian Bunk2006-04-111-2/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch switches arch/i386/mach-voyager/voyager_cat.c to using named initializers for struct resource. Besides a fixing compile error in Greg's tree, it makes the code more readable. * [PATCH] fix voyager after topology.c moveJames Bottomley2006-02-261-14/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 9c869edac591977314323a4eaad5f7633fca684f broke voyager again rather subtly because it already had its own topology exporting functions, so now each CPU gets registered twice. I think we can actually use the generic ones, so I don't propose reverting it. The attached should eliminate the voyager topology functions in favour of the generic ones. I also added a define to ensure voyager is never hotplug CPU (we don't have the support in the SMP harness). * [PATCH] voyager: fix the cpu_possible_map to make voyager boot againJames Bottomley2006-02-241-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Right at the moment (thanks to a patch from Andrew), cpu_possible_map on voyager is CPU_MASK_NONE, which means the machine always thinks it has no CPUs. Fix that by doing an early initialisation of the cpu_possible_map from the cpu_phys_present_map. * [PATCH] voyager: fix boot panic by adding topology exportJames Bottomley2006-02-241-0/+15
| | | | | | | | | It looks like I can't get away without exporting topology functions from voyager any longer, so add them to the voyager subarchitecture. * [PATCH] x86: don't initialise cpu_possible_map to all onesAndrew Morton2006-02-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Initialising cpu_possible_map to all-ones with CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU means that a) All for_each_cpu() loops will iterate across all NR_CPUS CPUs, rather than over possible ones. That can be quite expensive. b) Soon we'll be allocating per-cpu areas only for possible CPUs. So with CPU_MASK_ALL, we'll be wasting memory. I also switched voyager over to not use CPU_MASK_ALL in the non-CPU-hotplug case. Should be OK.. I note that parisc is also using CPU_MASK_ALL. Suggest that it stop doing that. * [PATCH] useless includes of linux/irq.h in arch/i386Al Viro2005-09-264-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Most of these guys are simply not needed (pulled by other stuff via asm-i386/hardirq.h). One that is not entirely useless is hilarious - arch/i386/oprofile/nmi_timer_int.c includes linux/irq.h... as a way to get linux/errno.h Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] i386 boottime for_each_cpu brokenZwane Mwaikambo2005-09-051-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | for_each_cpu walks through all processors in cpu_possible_map, which is defined as cpu_callout_map on i386 and isn't initialised until all processors have been booted. This breaks things which do for_each_cpu iterations early during boot. So, define cpu_possible_map as a bitmap with NR_CPUS bits populated. This was triggered by a patch i'm working on which does alloc_percpu before bringing up secondary processors. From: Alexander Nyberg <alexn@telia.com> i386-boottime-for_each_cpu-broken.patch i386-boottime-for_each_cpu-broken-fix.patch The SMP version of __alloc_percpu checks the cpu_possible_map before allocating memory for a certain cpu. With the above patches the BSP cpuid is never set in cpu_possible_map which breaks CONFIG_SMP on uniprocessor machines (as soon as someone tries to dereference something allocated via __alloc_percpu, which in fact is never allocated since the cpu is not set in cpu_possible_map). * [PATCH] i386 voyager: Add machine_shutdownEric W. Biederman2005-08-061-0/+6

* [PATCH] fix voyager compile after machine_emergency_restart breakageJames Bottomley2005-08-051-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | [PATCH] i386: Implement machine_emergency_reboot introduced this new function into arch/i386/reboot.c. However, subarchitectures are entitled to implement their own copies of reboot.c from which this new function is now missing. It looks like visws will also need a similar fixup Signed-off-by: James Bottomley <James.Bottomley@SteelEye.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] Don't export machine_restart, machine_halt, or machine_power_off.Eric W. Biederman2005-07-261-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | machine_restart, machine_halt and machine_power_off are machine specific hooks deep into the reboot logic, that modules have no business messing with. Usually code should be calling kernel_restart, kernel_halt, kernel_power_off, or emergency_restart. So don't export machine_restart, machine_halt, and machine_power_off so we can catch buggy users. * [PATCH] fix voyager subarchitecture EXPORT_SYMBOL breakage caused by ↵James Bottomley2005-07-132-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | i386_ksym reduction This patch: [PATCH] Remove i386_ksyms.c, almost made files like smp.c do their own EXPORT_SYMBOLS. This means that all subarchitectures that override these symbols now have to do the exports themselves. This patch adds the exports for voyager (which is the most affected since it has a separate smp harness). However, someone should audit all the other subarchitectures to see if any others got broken. * [PATCH] xen: x86: Rename usermode macroVincent Hanquez2005-06-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rename user_mode to user_mode_vm and add a user_mode macro similar to the x86-64 one. This is useful for Xen because the linux xen kernel does not runs on the same priviledge that a vanilla linux kernel, and with this we just need to redefine user_mode(). * [PATCH] voyager_smp.c static inline fixDominik Hackl2005-05-241-9/+8

* Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-166-0/+3657
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
